* * * NEWSFLASH * * *
We are delighted to announce that the German National Agency for Erasmus+ have judged our Europia project  as very good, and has awarded it the PAD* seal of quality.  It has also been selected as a ''Success Story 2019'', one of only 25 projects selected from a total of 683 Key Action 1 and 2 projects. These projects are regarded as particularly exemplary in terms of implementation and outcomes, and suitable for wider dissemination.  For the full text of the congratulatory letter, click here.

This well established and successful partnership (4 previous projects together, all rated as ‘star’ projects by the EU), is looking forward to 3 further years of collaboration, fully funded by the EU Erasmus+ Lifelong Learning fund.
The current project (title: Confederation of Europia) has been designed with the aim of furthering students’ understanding of the two strands of democracy and entrepreneurship.  Europia is a confederation of 4 ‘states’, that happen to be located in schools, as follows:
  • Oberschule Bederkesa, Germany:  Beeropia
  • College Vouziers, France:   Vouzropia
  • IES La Rocha, Telde, Gran Canaria, Spain:   Teldropia
  • Bodmin College, UK:    Bodropia
Democracy
Within this Confederation, students will become citizens of Europia, electing a President and Vice President for each state, thus learning about democracy.  A range of learning activities on this topic has been designed by the project team and will be implemented in each school.  The President and VP will be expected to formally welcome and debate issues with visiting Presidents.
Entrepreneurship
Within each state, entrepreneurship will be fostered, with staff mentors helping students to establish businesses that will run during project weeks.  Host school and visiting school students will be employees by going through an application and interview process, and will earn credit to spend in other businesses.
Citizenship
Other students, those who are not politicians, entrepreneurs or employees, will have the chance to be involved as student mediators or journalists, as a host family or as customers during business fairs.
Project weeks
Every school hosts a project week.  Students from each school will work together on a programme of activities, including a state banquet and a business fair.  It is hoped that each school can provide at least 30 host families, thus allowing each visiting school to bring 10 students to project weeks.
